The repair of recurrent inguinal, incisional and ventral hernias by using Dacron patch to reinforce the tissue edges has the unique advantages of allowing primary closure of large incisional hernias in the presence of considerable tension and of
providing an exceptionally strong mechanical approximation of the conjoined tendon to Poupart's and Cooper's ligament in inguinal hernias.
In 14 cases of various hernia, we performed herniorrhaphy with Dacron pathch for abdominal wall reinforcement from March 1990 to February 1992 in Department of surgery, College of Medicine, Soon Chun Hyang University.
@ES Clinical analysis and result were as follows:
@EN 1) The age of patients are ranges from 21 to 65.Among these, male were 10 cases and female wee 4 cases.
2) The prosthetic material was used double Velour Dacron from Meadox Medicals, Inc., and the anesthesia was performed with 12 generals and 2 spinals.
3) Most frequent site was inguinal area(7 cases), and the others were postoperative incisional hernia(3 cases), post-traumatic ventral hernia(4 cases).
4) One case operated in the indirect inguinal hernia was to prevent a recurence because of its big size and weak abdominal muscle.
5) Six cases operated in recurrent inguinal hernias consisted of three cases recurred after lst. herniorrhaphy, two cases atter Srd. herniorrhaphy. One case recurred after 4th . herniorrhaphy.
6) All three cases of incisional hernia occurred after abdominal surgery were caused by wound infection, and four cases of post-traumatic ventral hernia were casused by fall down and traffic accident.
7) There was no postoperative complication(hematoma, infection, foreign body sensation, rejection, etc.), but mild postoperative pain due to tension was developed in one case.
8) The mean post-operative admission days were 8 days.
9) Although the follow up was short, there was no recurrence and mortality.
Consequently in cases of inguinal hernia which was recurred or will be recurred, a broad incisional hernia after abdominal surgery and post-traumatic ventral hernia, herniorrhaphy with Dacron patch is return quickly to prevent a recurrence, ease
pain
and make a patient return quickly to the normal lift.
